- Preply: English tutors show a USD 15 to 25 hourly asking band, checked 16 Sep 2026. No specific degree, certificate or experience requirement is listed in the current record.
- italki: tutors set lesson prices and no typical hourly range is published, checked 18 Sep 2026. The fee schedule varies by lesson type, and onboarding was not rechecked in that pay check.
- Cambly: adult live chat is paid at USD 0.17 per minute, not hourly. The source requires native English, lists no degree, certificate or experience requirement, and says new-tutor intake is limited, checked 17 Sep 2026.

A seven-day preparation checklist
- Check the basics: test your camera, microphone, connection, room and payment details. Use equipment you already have until a real need appears.
- Choose a learner and task: write one honest profile headline for conversation, exam practice, workplace English or another skill you can teach.
- Make a short introduction: record clear audio, name your lesson focus and explain what a learner will practise. Do not claim credentials or results you do not have.
- Prepare a sample lesson: include a diagnostic question, one teaching point, guided practice and a review.
- Read each application page: compare current eligibility, intake status, pay unit and fees.
- Open a simple record: note applications, lessons, fees, preparation time and questions. Use these notes when deciding what to change.
- Review before publishing: check that your photo, video, availability and examples describe the teacher you are today.
A first-month practice plan
- Week 1: practise the sample lesson with a willing partner and improve the instructions that caused confusion.
- Week 2: publish one focused profile and keep a second platform under review. Do not assume either platform will supply a set number of lessons.
- Week 3: review learner questions and adjust one activity at a time.
- Week 4: compare actual lesson records with preparation time, fees and your availability before changing price or platform.
