Your first 30 days preparing for online teaching
Use these four stages at your own pace. A month is a planning window. Start with a role’s requirements before buying a course or equipment.
Week 1: check the work you want
Choose the learners, subject and teaching format you can support. Read several current role records, then open the employer sources. Note applicant location, qualifications, working hours, pay unit and any missing terms.
If a role requires a teaching certificate, record the exact requirement and ask the employer about anything unclear. Do not assume a provisional certificate, course duration or provider name will be accepted. Use the course research guide before enrolling.
Week 2: prepare the requested application
Adapt your CV to the role. Prepare an introduction or demonstration only in the format requested. Describe experience and qualifications accurately; relevant examples can come from teaching, tutoring or other work where you helped someone learn.
Use the readiness checklist for the items the employer requests. Test the camera, microphone and internet connection you already have before deciding whether anything needs replacing.
Week 3: apply and keep records
Check that the application route is current and belongs to the employer or its stated recruiter. Keep the vacancy link, date, documents submitted and any reply. Do not send identity or financial documents until the employer's process asks for them.
Practise a short lesson with a clear aim, one activity and a check for understanding. The editable lesson planner provides an example to adapt.
Week 4: review the evidence
Review which applications received a response and what feedback you received. Change one part of an application or lesson at a time. A lack of response does not establish that a particular qualification, price or personal background caused it.
If work is offered, confirm paid tasks, fees, cancellation terms, payment timing and the schedule. Use a budget based on confirmed terms and your own expected paid hours. Until bookings exist, an income calculation remains a scenario.
