How employer verification works

This page explains how we check the identity of someone asking to change an employer's listing. For how we check pay and application sources, read our methodology.

What Plain Chalk is

Plain Chalk is an independent directory of online teaching roles and ongoing application programmes found on public sources. Our source-check methodology explains how we record evidence and uncertainty.

How to request a change

An employer can ask us to correct, update or remove a listing, or send vacancies directly, by emailing Plain Chalk Support at support@plainchalk.com.

The domain rule

We only act on requests sent from an email address at the employer's own website domain — the domain of the site we link to. For example, a request about example.com must come from an address like careers@example.com. Requests from free email addresses like Gmail or Outlook, or from other domains, are not accepted as proof.

How we confirm

We confirm requests by replying to the email address they were sent from, before we change anything on the site. The reply helps confirm control of that address. We also check that the domain matches the employer source before acting on the request.

If there is no domain email

If an employer's domain has no email we can reach, we can instead send them a short code and ask them to publish it on their own careers page. This helps establish control of the relevant careers page.

What an identity check means

An identity check concerns the person requesting a change. If we describe a completed identity check, we state its scope; source-check dates and hiring status remain separate.

Directory listings and these identity checks are free. A featured listing is labelled Sponsored: we sell placement for a single vacancy, and it never changes source evidence, pay facts or hiring status. See the listing policy and information for employers.
