Use the public site freely, check every listing with the employer, and use the optional account features only when they are available.

The service
Plain Chalk is a free job board for online English, ESL, ELA and maths teaching roles, operated by the Plain Chalk Team. Source check dates show when Plain Chalk last looked at a source; they are not vacancy publication dates. You can browse without an account.
What Plain Chalk is
Plain Chalk is a job board and research site for teaching work. We are not an employer, an agency, a recruiter or a school, and we are not affiliated with the employers we list unless a page says so. Employers set and change their own pay, terms, hiring and bookings. Nothing on the site is a promise of work, students, bookings, hours or earnings. Listings and figures are what employers had published when we checked them, so check the current opening and terms with the employer before you apply. Any application, contract or agreement is between you and the employer, not Plain Chalk. Read Pay figures and accuracy for how we handle pay data, and Corrections and takedowns to report a problem.
Work saved in your browser
Saved jobs, application stages and notes are stored in your browser on your device by default. They are not part of the public job board. If you save a lesson draft, it stays in this browser on this device.
Optional accounts
Optional accounts use an email address and a password to sign in. Your profile contains the display name you enter and the teacher or recruiter role you choose. That role cannot be changed later. Browsing jobs and using the free tools do not require an account.
Teacher account records
A teacher can review individual Plain Chalk job records saved in the browser and select which to copy to a private cloud list. Nothing is imported automatically, and a browser note is copied only when the teacher separately selects it. If a selected job already exists in the cloud list, the existing cloud stage and note stay in place. Removing an account copy does not remove the browser copy. Later edits to either copy do not update the other. These account records are private to the signed in account and are not public job listings.
Recruiter drafts
A recruiter can create and edit a private online vacancy draft with the details shown on the account page. Submitting a draft sends it to Plain Chalk for review. Submission and review do not publish a vacancy automatically.
Pay figures and accuracy
We show pay only when the cited source supports it. We keep the source’s original currency and paid period or unit. When a dated approximate USD conversion is available, we label it as approximate and keep the source date. Some listings therefore show pay as unpublished or unknown. Rates and requirements change without notice. We work hard to keep the data current, but we provide it “as is” without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
How listings are chosen
Listings and course recommendations appear based on our Listing Policy.
Company names
Company names used in listings, comparison tables and guides are trademarks of their respective owners, used for identification only. Competitor feature comparisons reflect publicly visible features at the date stated and may change.
Corrections and takedowns
Employers can request correction or removal of a listing via support@plainchalk.com. Teachers can report a listing by emailing support@plainchalk.com. Our vetting rules are public in the Listing Policy.
Everything else
Do not scrape the site abusively, do not submit false reports, and do not rely on the salary calculator as financial advice (it is arithmetic, not advice). Questions: contact us.
