What you get, free

A base listing costs nothing and goes through the same review as a featured one. You write up the vacancy once, in your own workspace, and it goes on the board at no charge.

• A reviewed listing. We check the vacancy against the listing policy before we publish it, and we review in the order listings arrive. Free listings are reviewed the same way as featured ones.
• Pay shown as you state it. We do not convert it into an hourly rate.
• Your pay is never rewritten. Your figure appears in the currency and paid unit you give us. We add no converted figure of our own, and where no rate is published the listing says “Pay given when you apply” rather than a guess.
• Your own application route. Teachers apply on your page. Plain Chalk does not take applications, and no fee is charged to the teacher at any point.
• Up to 120 days on the board. A listing is published after review. By default it runs to your closing date or 30 days, whichever comes first, and we can extend within 120 days, never later than your closing date. You can close it earlier whenever the role is filled.
• Written up for Google’s job search. When your published listing includes its full description and where applicants can be, its title, description and dates are marked up for Google’s job search.

Featured placement

Featured placement is the only thing we sell. It puts one vacancy at the top of the board, and it carries the Sponsored label wherever the listing appears. It does not buy a different review, different pay facts or a different place for other listings.

How it works

Every listing moves through the same five states, and you can see which one it is in from your workspace.

1. Draft

   You write the vacancy. Only you can see it, and nothing is public yet.

2. Submitted

   You send it for review. It is waiting, and still not public.

3. Reviewed

   The Plain Chalk Team reads your source page and your application route. If something is missing or unclear, it comes back with a note you can answer.

4. Published

   It is on the board with your pay, your requirements and your application link, until its end date.

5. Manage and close

   You keep it up to date, and you close it when the role is filled. A published listing is locked, so a material change is made by copying it, editing the copy and submitting that.

What we check before publishing

Review is a read of the pages you give us.

• The application link. It has to open, and it has to be the employer’s own route to apply.
• The source page. We read the page the vacancy came from, and we keep its address beside the listing.
• The pay details. Your figure keeps its currency and paid unit. If no rate is published, the listing says “Pay given when you apply” rather than a guess.
• The eligibility wording. Who may apply, and where they must live to be considered, in the words the employer used.

Two things are refused outright: requirements that discriminate against applicants, and any fee charged to a teacher to apply, train or be placed. Read the listing policy for the full rules.
