Best online ESL platforms by region in 2026: source-aware choices

A region can affect student demand and teaching hours, but it does not create a universal wage. Use the notes below to shortlist platforms, then verify eligibility and live openings for your location.

Europe and the UK

GoStudent UK has a source-backed UK English programme rate of GBP 13 for a regular 50 minute lesson. It is a lesson amount, not an hourly or Europe-wide rate. Lingoda and Novakid describe their teaching models and requirements, but the linked records do not publish an hourly wage. East Asia and the rest of Asia

italki is a rate-setting marketplace with no verified typical hourly band in the current record. Its fee schedule is specific to the lesson type: 0% for trials, 21% for single lessons, 19% for 5 lesson packages, 17% for 10 lesson packages, 15% for 15 and 20 lesson packages and 30% for group classes.

Ringle advertises USD 17 to USD 22 per hour for tutors working with Korean professionals. Magic Ears has a SmartRecruiters posting that advertises USD 19 to 26 per hour and asks for native English plus a bachelor’s degree or current study, with TEFL preferred. Both are advertised role terms.

North America

Wyzant is a US remote marketplace where tutors set an asking price. This directory has no published Wyzant wage. The documented platform fee is 25%. Preply is global and states that English tutors charge USD 15 to 25 per hour on average as an asking price. Regular commission runs from 33% down to 18%, and new-student trials pay 100% commission to the platform.

Cambly lists USD 0.17 per active chat minute for adults and USD 0.20 per minute for Cambly Kids. The current record labels intake as limited.

MENA, Africa, and other locations

Rate-setting marketplaces can be useful when a school job does not match your location. AmazingTalker uses teacher-level price limits and variable service fees. Superprof lets tutors set an asking price and describes a 0% to 10% fee depending on the payment route. Neither source publishes a typical wage.
