Ask whether a Korean learner needs conversation, workplace communication, TOEIC, TOEFL or IELTS practice. Korea Standard Time is UTC+9 year-round, so map the learner's stated availability to your own calendar. Do not treat a market label as evidence of a particular wage, booking pattern or lesson preference.
Platform records to compare
- Ringle: the tutor page advertises USD 17 to 22 per hour, checked 16 Sep 2026. The pay is an advertised platform figure, so confirm current requirements on the live tutor page.
- italki: tutors set lesson prices, but no typical hourly range is published, checked 18 Sep 2026. Fees vary by lesson type: 0% trials, 21% single lessons, 19% 5 lesson packages, 17% 10 lesson packages, 15% 15 and 20 lesson packages, and 30% group classes.
- Preply: English tutors show a USD 15 to 25 hourly asking band, checked 16 Sep 2026. Regular lesson commission is 33% down to 18%, with 100% commission on new-student trials.
- Engoo: the platform does not publish a tutor wage. Lessons are 25 minutes and one to one; the current community report is not a Korea-specific platform wage.

Lesson choices for Korean learners
- Ask about the learner's work, study or travel task before selecting materials.
- Use a clear agenda with a short model, guided practice and review.
- Give thinking time and ask how the learner prefers corrections.
- For TOEIC, TOEFL or IELTS, name the section and task you will practise instead of promising a score change.
- Use cultural references only when the learner brings them into the lesson. Avoid treating all Korean learners alike.

Common mistakes
- Quoting a wage when a source publishes an asking price, advertisement, fee rule or per-minute unit.
- Assuming exam goals or correction preferences without asking.
- Using a generic profile that does not say which learner task you can teach.
- Promising a booking pattern, score change or higher rate before you have your own records.
- Leaving old pay claims in a profile after a platform changes its terms.
