Start with the learner and the parent
Kids lessons need a short objective, visible materials and a simple way to involve the parent. Pay records use different units and terms, so compare the source rather than a single market range.
Current platform records
- Outschool: teachers set the class price. The official Teacher Fee is 30%, so teachers keep 70% of the class-price payment; the current record does not publish a typical tutor wage, checked 13 Sep 2026.
- Magic Ears: its own posting advertises USD 19 to 26 per hour, checked 18 Sep 2026. The posting asks for native English and a bachelor's degree or current study; TEFL is preferred, not required.
- 51Talk: the official FAQ publishes no pay number. It asks for fluent English and a clear natural accent, plus a bachelor's degree, diploma or equivalent experience; teaching experience is optional and TESOL or TEFL is an advantage, checked 19 Sep 2026.
- LingoAce: the current hiring board shows no positions. Online pay, eligibility, applicant countries and schedules are unconfirmed, checked 19 Sep 2026.
- Novakid: the official teacher page says competitive pay but does not publish an hourly wage, checked 13 Sep 2026. It lists C1 or higher English, a bachelor's degree in education or a TEFL or CELTA qualification, and online ESL experience.
A practical kids lesson
- State one small language goal and show the parent how it will appear in the lesson.
- Use a picture, object or short movement activity to make the meaning visible.
- Model the language, let the child practise, then change one detail so the child uses it independently.
- Keep instructions short and offer a choice when attention drops.
- End with a quick review and one simple practice idea for home. Do not promise a score or a booking pattern.
Common mistakes
- Using adult explanations when a child needs a visible example and guided practice.
- Adding games without a clear language goal.
- Ignoring the parent's question about what the child practised.
- Quoting an estimated wage when the source publishes a fee rule, an advert or no wage.
- Claiming credentials, outcomes or experience that are not yours.
