Start with the work task
Business English is easier to teach when the learner brings a real task such as a presentation opening, a meeting update, an email or a negotiation. A business label does not establish a wage, a contract or a regular booking pattern.
Current platform records
- Preply: English tutors show a $15 to $25 hourly asking band, checked 16 Sep 2026. The record does not publish a separate business contract wage, and regular lesson commission is 33% down to 18% with 100% commission on new-student trials.
- italki: no typical hourly range is published, checked 18 Sep 2026. Tutors set lesson prices and the official fee schedule varies by lesson type.
- Verbling: no wage is published. The current record says a certificate or verifiable teaching experience and C2 command of the language are required, checked 16 Sep 2026.
- Cambly: adult live chat is paid at $0.17 per minute, not hourly. Native English is required and new-tutor intake is limited, checked 17 Sep 2026.
- EF Teach Online: the official page describes competitive pay but no hourly wage, checked 13 Sep 2026. The current record lists C2 English, a bachelor's degree and an accredited 40-hour TEFL; prior teaching experience is not required in the record.
- Ringle: the tutor page advertises $17 to $22 per hour, checked 16 Sep 2026. Confirm current eligibility on the live page.
Lesson structure for business learners
- Ask what the learner needs to do, who will hear or read it and when it will happen.
- Use a short real document, agenda or recording as the lesson material.
- Model one useful phrase or structure, then let the learner practise it in the real task.
- Give a small set of language and delivery corrections the learner can reuse.
- End with one practice task and a clear next lesson goal. Do not promise a promotion, contract or business result.
Profile and application choices
- Name the business task you teach and the evidence you actually have.
- Show a short sample activity rather than claiming executive or corporate experience you cannot document.
- Check each platform's current fee, pay unit, qualification rule and intake status before applying.
- Keep your own notes on preparation time, lessons, fees and enquiries before changing your price.
