Online teaching jobs: clear answers

Browsing jobs, comparing pay, saving jobs on this device and using the tools are free and do not require an account. An optional teacher account lets you copy selected saved jobs, and copy a note only if you choose that note, to a private account list. Recruiters can use an account to prepare vacancy drafts for review.

Each card labels its pay basis. Advertised means the employer publishes that rate. Asking means a tutor set their own price on a marketplace. Community reported means a teacher report or a dated third-party report, with its source shown. It is not a representative earnings survey. Estimated and scenario are our calculations, not the employer's. Not published means the programme shares no rate publicly. See methodology for the full breakdown.

The date on a listing is when its source was last checked. Figures are checked on the date shown; automatic updates are not running. Always check the employer's own page for the current rate.

Some employers do not share a rate on their public pages, and teachers have not reported one we could check. Rather than guess, the card says “Pay given when you apply”. If the programme later publishes a rate, email us at support@plainchalk.com and we will check it.

Start with programmes that let tutors set their own rates or publish a higher pay band. The board shows the pay basis and requirements; it does not predict what any individual will earn.

Some programmes in the directory accept applicants without a degree; each card shows what it asks for. Check the TEFL, experience and speaker requirements on the linked source before applying. Use the "No degree listed" filter to narrow the board.

There is no single take-home figure. Each card shows a figure with its label — advertised, asking, community-reported or estimated — or says the rate is not public. Commission, unpaid trials, bookings and tax all affect what you keep. Use the calculator for a scenario, not a forecast.

Payment methods vary; the programme's terms should name them. Tax treatment depends on where you live and whether you are employed or self-employed. Check local guidance before filing.

Hours vary by programme. Marketplace tutors choose their availability; fixed-rate programmes often set peak windows. Use the hours listed for each programme rather than a site-wide average.

Remote does not always mean every country. Check the programme's eligible-country, time-zone, tax and equipment requirements before applying.

Some maths-tutoring programmes accept tutors without a state teaching licence, but may ask for a degree or subject background. Check each listing's requirements and advertised pay; a licence or degree may still be required for particular programmes.

A laptop, headset with microphone, webcam and stable internet are the usual starting point. Check the programme's own equipment and connection requirements; some provide the curriculum and teaching platform.
