What "online maths" usually means on the page
Read the curriculum and year group before the pay line.
- Singapore-style / tuition-agency assignment. Nanyang Learning's Secondary 1 Maths online assignment states "Job Status: Available/ Open" and quotes "Secondary 1 Maths-Online Tuition -$ 30/hr", with a recorded lesson length of 1.5 hours on the same posting.[1]
- Exam-board maths. Quest For Success advertises Cambridge IGCSE/AS–A Level mathematics with live online one-on-one classes and an annual CTC band of "₹ 3,60,000 - 7,20,000 /year".[2] Prospero Teaching seeks a 1:1 online tutor for "GCSE English, Maths or Science" at a "Minimum rate of pay – £25 per hour".[3] m2r Education's Reed posting asks for "online A Level & GCSE Maths lessons" at "£25 - £35 per hour".[4]
- National curriculum / school-style remote. Aotearoa Infinite Academy's maths role asks teachers to deliver "Pre-IGCSE, IGCSE, and NCEA Levels 2-3 curriculum" through "live virtual classrooms", with who-may-apply wording: "Work fully remotely from anywhere in New Zealand…".[5]
- Platform or marketplace maths. Tutero: "At Tutero, you will earn between $30 - $45 per hour."[6] Yup emphasises pay for "all your time logged in - not just for the time spent connected with a student."[7]
If the page never names maths (or only buries it under "all subjects"), don't assume a maths caseload.
Lesson length and pay unit
Maths ads reuse the same unit traps as other online teaching jobs. Decode the unit before you compare employers.

Credentials stated on the page
Only believe credentials the employer actually writes. Examples already on file:
- QTS / teaching registration. Owl Tutors (online tuition among services): "As of September 2026, applications are open to all teachers holding QTS or international equivalent".[11]
- Right to work (often next to credentials). Prospero: "Hold the right to work in the UK".[3] Cloud Tuition: "Currently located in Australia with the right to work in Australia".[12] KIS Academics: "Live or plan to live in Australia for the next 12 months".[13]
- WWCC / safeguarding cards. Tutero: "All Tutero tutors must have a valid employee WWCC/Blue Card."[6]
- Named maths curriculum on a remote role. Aotearoa Infinite Academy's maths posting asks teachers to deliver "Pre-IGCSE, IGCSE, and NCEA Levels 2-3 curriculum" while working "fully remotely from anywhere in New Zealand…".[5] Re-read the live page for any licence line before you apply.
Don't invent licence law. If the page is silent, ask the recruiter; don't fill the gap from memory of another country's rules.
Who may apply (residence lines)
Maths roles are often "remote" and still geography-locked.
- Aotearoa Infinite Academy maths: "Work fully remotely from anywhere in New Zealand…".[5]
- Cloud Tuition (maths/English): Australia location + right to work.[12]
- KIS Academics: live (or plan to live) in Australia for 12 months.[13]

Parse these with the same care as any other online teaching ad: country/state lines beat the word "remote".
A five-minute evaluation checklist
- Subject line — Does the posting name Maths / Mathematics / a named syllabus (NCEA, IGCSE, CBSE, UK curriculum)?
- Audience — Primary, secondary, exam years, college prep?
- Pay unit — Hour, lesson, month, year? Any "up to"?
- Lesson length — Minutes or hours stated, or missing?
- Credentials + who-may-apply — Licence, WWCC, country residence, right to work?
- Online proof — Live video / virtual classroom language on the page (e.g. Tutero "Sessions are completed online…"; Yup "Work from home - or wherever!").[8][6][7]
If steps 3–5 fail, pause the application. Missing units and silent eligibility lines waste more time than a lower sticker rate.
