Compare alternatives to a Magic Ears teaching role

Compare lesson formats, schedules, requirements and pay terms before applying.

Decide what you want to keep or change

If you have taught with Magic Ears, write down what suited you and what you want to change. You might want individual lessons instead of groups, a different schedule, adult learners or more control over materials. Those preferences make a better starting point than searching for the highest advertised hourly figure.

If you are checking Magic Ears itself, open its dated listing and source. Do not assume an older article describes current recruitment, pay or the status of your own account.

Three different options to investigate

OptionTeaching modelQuestion to resolve
LingoAceIts teacher portal describes one-to-one English lessons for children, with supplied materials.Do its current qualifications, location restrictions and schedule fit you?
Cambly KidsCambly’s children’s English tutoring programme. Is your application being accepted, and how are paid teaching minutes recorded?
PreplyA marketplace where tutors describe their offer and set prices. Can you find suitable learners at a price that covers fees and all your working time?

Each uses a different teaching model. Sources checked 20 September 2026: LingoAce teacher portal, Cambly tutor page and Preply tutor page.

Compare a normal working week

Choose the hours you could realistically offer and check the employer’s named time zone, including seasonal clock changes where relevant. Include preparation, feedback, messages and any required meetings. Ask which of those activities are paid and whether a minimum number of lessons is in writing.

Keep each quoted rate in its own currency and unit. Record bonuses separately from base pay. A higher per-lesson figure may involve more preparation or fewer paid lessons; you need the actual terms to compare.

Before moving your workload

Check the new application process and contract before relying on income from it. Complete any notice or existing lesson obligations through the current employer’s process. Do not move student details or teaching materials between services unless you are permitted to do so.

Start with the current teaching board, and use the contract checklist to record questions for the employer. An application is a possibility to investigate, not replacement income until the work is agreed and paid.
